Description:
Fusible links are designed to protect your car's wiring and electrical components in the event of an electrical surge (such as voltage spikes or current overloads). In extreme cases, proper links can be the difference between a minor inconvenience/repair and the salvage yard! This quality reproduction fusible link consists of a single black link with relief cord and is used to protect the electronics of the Fuel Injection system. It includes the correct single wire connector housings on each end to properly connect the positive battery terminal and the EFI system. Sold individually. While each car only requires 1 of this link, it's generally a good idea to keep a spare fusible link on hand in case of emergency, as you never use regular wire in place of a fusible link (see Fusible Link Safety note below). Need replacement connectors for the harness where this fusible link installs? See 12-4353 and 12-4354 in Related Items.
Color Note:
The factory original fusible link used green cable for the link itself; however, this reproduction uses black cable instead. It is functionally the same as the original cable, and only differs in appearance.
Strain Relief Notes:
Unlike the other fusible links which install in dedicated housings, this particular link fits in front of the battery without any sort of cover. Originally, a small high tension lead clip was used to secure the EFI lead to the positive battery cable. These clips are frequently lost for one reason or another, leaving the link to simply lay in front of the battery. Fortunately, this fusible link includes a strain relief cord (white), which is a bit shorter than the actual fusible link (green) and prevents damage by keeping the link from sitting taut. The strain relief does have an appearance that is similar to a second fusible link, but is not an actual wire (the appearance has led to a degree of confusion over the years).
Fusible Link Safety:
Fusible Links are much more than a length of wire. They are specifically designed using a special type of wire construction, with special safety insulation made of heat-resistant cross linked CPE (Chlorinated Polyethylene). Using regular wire in place of a fusible link, even in an emergency situation, is extremely dangerous. This is true even if you choose standard wire that is smaller than the circuit, because of the level of fire-resistant insulation. If you use a standard wire that is the same size or larger than the circuit, you are at a high risk of catastrophic failure of what is in that circuit, or even a car fire. We recommend always having spare Fuses and Fusible Links stored in your Z, especially if you travel.
