Description:
A failing trunk lid support can be quite the inconvenience. These shocks are designed to hold the rear trunk lid in the fully open position while you access your cargo inside. As they wear from age and use, the supports can struggle to keep the trunk open. One side may sag a little at first, or the entire lid may slowly droop down. Eventually, this situation can lead to injury as the shocks wear even more, ranging from a banged head from an unexpectedly low hanging tailgate to much more significant hand, head, back, or any other body part struck by a deck lid suddenly collapsing. Fortunately, replacement is simple and should only take a few minutes. This genuine, original equipment (OEM) trunk support fits on each side of roadster model trunk deck lids. Sold individually; 2 required per car.
Note:
If your trunk lid does not "pop" up when using the opener, these supports are most likely not the source of the issue. 350Z and newer models use "spring bumpers" to help cushion the trunk on closing and provide that initial opening. These are also prone to wear over time; see 34-1161 in Related Items for replacements.
Trunk Lid Spoiler Note:
Roadster model trunk lid supports were not specifically designed to support the weight of a spoiler. Due to the difference in operating angles between the coupe deck lid and roadster trunk lid though, the standard roadster supports should hold under the weight of small spoilers that are similar in size to the original coupe version (see Related Items for our Roadster Spoilers as an example). Keep in mind that additional wear is still possible from the extra weight. If you are adding a spoiler to your Z Roadster, we strongly recommend replacing both the supports and the spring bumpers.
