Description:
Dirt, debris, and old grease are the main culprits of CV Joint wear. If the boot tears or rots away, the specialized grease is exposed to dirt and road debris, which then works its way into the joint. Likewise, old grease won't provide enough lubrication for the joint, allowing for metal on metal contact. This genuine, original equipment (OEM) repair kit includes everything needed to service the boot and grease in the CV Joint at the differential side of one axle. Sold individually; 1 kit is required per CV Axle (2 kits required per car). See Related Items for the outer repair kit.

Unfortunately, accurate information regarding when CV Axles were put into use, and on which 280ZX models, is no longer readily available. From the records we have (including several versions of the Nissan microfiche), these were officially first put into use on turbo models starting at production month 12/80. 2+2 models show them first being used at production month 9/81 (R200 only). Despite this, evidence indicates that 2+2 models may have seen them as early as 1980 production year. Regardless of sub-model and first use, CV Axles were only ever used on 280ZX models with R200 differentials (all Z-Cars after the 280ZX came with CV Axles). As always, it is best to confirm on your car directly whether you have half shafts or CV Axles prior to ordering.
Availability Note:
Availability information from Nissan on this kit has been mixed recently. We have been informed that these are both available and not available within a short time period. If you think you might need to repair the inner end of the CV axle on your early Z31, we recommend not waiting to purchase one or two of these repair kits.
