Availability: This part has been discontinued by Nissan; however, we've located a limited number of these OEM Thumbscrew Receivers through our overseas supplier network. We are doing all we can to keep limited items like this in stock, but may not have them on hand at all times. As with all items Special Ordered from overseas, it can take some time to arrive in our inventory, and that time can vary widely for each order (Special Orders from Japan can take anywhere from 1-3 months or even longer, as an example). Description:
This genuine, original equipment (OEM) threaded receiver fitting is used to hold the spare tire cover in place along with the interior thumbscrew fasteners. When combined with the thumbscrew, they make accessing the spare tire much simpler than most other cars. Unfortunately, they are also susceptible to age related wear like most other plastic parts, and typically become brittle over the years. This version is only used to hold the spare tire cover in place on 280ZX models. Sold individually. Includes pre-installed foam gasket.

*Note:
While the 280ZX spare tire cover uses 2 thumbscrews to secure in place, only one of these fittings uses one of the plastic receivers (the forward fitting). The rear position at the tail light panel uses a different fitting, which is not available at this time. Additionally, there were 2 different versions of this fitting used for the spare tire cover. When compared to the other version (40-3995), this version is about 2mm taller, white in color, and equipped with a black foam gasket. Which models used which version of the clip is unfortunately not included in the Nissan data we have available (which includes original Nissan microfiche copies among other resources). To make matters worse, production changes over the years led to one version or the other being unavailable at different times; even the Nissan part numbers were crossed between them at one point! Most of the cars we've seen over the years had the black version installed, which was also used on 280ZX tonneau covers and 84-89 spare tire covers.
