Description:
A failing deck lid support can be quite the inconvenience. These shocks are designed to hold the rear tailgate in the fully open position while you access your cargo inside the deck area. As they wear from age and use, the supports can struggle to keep the deck lid open. One side may sag a little at first, or the entire deck may slowly droop down. Eventually, this situation can lead to injury as the shocks wear even more, ranging from a banged head from an unexpectedly low hanging tailgate to much more significant hand, head, back, or any other body part struck by a deck lid suddenly collapsing. Fortunately, replacement is simple and should only take a few minutes. This genuine, original equipment (OEM) tailgate shock fits on the left (Driver's) side of coupe model rear deck lids. For factory 370Z NISMO models that originally came with either version of the large Nismo model spoiler (early or late) installed from the factory and 2023+ Nissan Z® models with both the factory installed deck spoiler and tonneau cover (see spoiler notes below for additional details*).
Note:
If your deck lid does not "pop" up when using the opener, these supports are most likely not the source of the issue. 350Z and newer models use "spring bumpers" to help cushion the tailgate on closing and provide that initial opening. These are also prone to wear over time; see 34-1162 or 34-1163 (11-14 Nismo Models) in Related Items for replacements.
*370Z Deck Lid Spoiler Note:
This factory original replacement deck support is intended for use on models that have a large rear spoiler installed. They will physically fit on 370Z coupe models without a spoiler installed; however, the tailgate will be significantly more difficult to close without the extra weight of a large spoiler. The same is the case for the standard factory installed spoiler, or any similarly sized rear deck spoiler.
*Nissan Z® Deck Lid Spoiler Note:
Nissan specifies this deck support for use when the standard model spoiler is installed with the tonneau cover (as well as on models factory equipped with both). As noted above for 370Z coupe models, it will also physically fit Z® models without a spoiler or the tonneau cover installed; however, the tailgate will be significantly more difficult to close. The same is the case for either component individually, or any similarly sized rear deck spoiler without the tonneau cover. While not confirmed as of yet, this support may also be able to support larger spoilers (similar in size to the 370Z Nismo wing) when installed without the tonneau cover. Lastly, when installing an accessory spoiler, tonneau cover, or both, Nissan notes that the deck lid spring bumpers (34-1162) should be replaced along with the deck supports.
