Description:
Whether you have already installed a performance 2 1/2" exhaust system on your 70-83 Z or ZX and just need a replacement muffler, or if you are planning a custom build, these mufflers are a great sounding and performing option for any early Z-Car*. They are the same type as the mufflers used in our complete 2.5" performance exhaust systems. Although the exact dimensions have changed slightly over the years, the overall size and configuration have remained generally the same. May be slightly different in overall dimensions from much older systems, but should fit with all 2 1/2" performance systems we've sold for 70-83 Z/ZX through the years.

Note:
Manufacturers do change dimensions slightly from time to time (and generally do so without any notice). However these mufflers should always be close to these sizes, and easy to make fit without significant effort or modifications.

*Application Note:
This muffler is meant as a replacement for Motorsport Auto 2 1/2" performance exhaust systems. It is not meant for stock pipes, which are significantly smaller diameter. Other aftermarket systems may not be close enough in dimensions or tube position to fit well. See Related Items for a 70-78 stock replacement muffler. Installation Note:
Oval performance mufflers should be positioned at an angle for a proper fit on 70-78 Z-Cars. For 79-81 280ZX non-turbo models with right side exhaust exit, the muffler installs horizontal with offset outlet toward the passenger (right) side. For 81 turbo and all 82-83 models with left side exit, it installs horizontal with the outlet toward the driver's (left) side.

84-89 Note:
This muffler is a fantastic option for those looking to build a custom exhaust for their stock or lightly modified 300ZX-Z31 Turbo.
