These fiberglass cases were patterned after the original factory Headlight Cases (commonly referred to as headlight "buckets"). They are lighter than metal cases, easier to paint, easier to repair, less expensive, and won't bend your fender in turn if they get bumped (so overall repair can be significantly less). They have the proper mounting hardware in the right places, and come ready to prep and paint.
Protective Coating:
This fiberglass item has a gel coating to protect the fiberglass itself from scratches. It is NOT a finish coat. You will notice scratching in the gel, which is exactly what it was designed to do, to take any scratching that can occur in production, transport, storage, handling, and shipping, keeping the fiberglass itself from being damaged. This is the same as with metal replacement body parts, even from the factory, they require preparation and painting before installing. Your paint professional will sand down the coating prior to final priming and painting. Please let us know if you have any questions.
