The carbon canister on your car is designed to draw fuel vapors from your gas tank and prevent the tank from over-pressurizing. The filter inside the canister goes bad over time; however, the filter tends to deteriorate quite rapidly if liquid fuel reaches it (from over-filling at the pump, for instance). We recommend inspecting/changing out this filter with every tune-up or if you are having trouble passing an emissions test (carbon canister issues tend to show up as a high hydrocarbon count). Genuine, original equipment (OEM) replacement filter.
We do not recommend removing the carbon canister for any reason other than replacement or cleaning/restoration. Unlike some emissions components, removing the carbon canister does not lead to any sort of performance gains. Removing the canister can lead to over-pressurizing the fuel tank, which is a very dangerous situation when it occurs.
