Description:
This genuine, original equipment (OEM) bolt is used to hold the half shaft and u-joint to the differential flange. It was originally used on the differential end of the half shaft due to the limited clearance between the flange and the differential (the bolt head on every half shaft bolt is originally on the differential side of the flange). Factory half shaft bolts have a unique body design that standard, off the shelf bolts do not match (standard bolts should never be used on half shaft flanges!). Sold individually; 4 required differential side flange (8 per car). See Related Items for the outer bolt.
*74-78 R-180 Note:
For R180 differentials, please inspect your car to determine whether you have 4-bolt flanges at the differential end of your half shafts. Some late S30 R180 differentials had both inner and outer flanges like the 240Z version, while others have a yoke that connects directly to the u-joint instead (the same as the 280ZX R180). Additionally, differentials are often swapped between models, so the differential you have may not match your particular model. This bolt is only used on R-180 differentials with 4-bolt flange type output shafts.
280ZX Axle Note:
This bolt is only used on 280ZX models equipped with R200 Differentials and Half Shafts. Not for use on models equipped with CV Axles. Unfortunately, accurate information regarding which years and sub-models received which axle type is no longer readily available. From the records we have (including several versions of the Nissan microfiche and parts books), all R180 differentials originally came with Half Shafts, as did early R200 models. Non-turbo coupes were supposed to use Half Shafts throughout 280ZX production (to 1983). CV Axles were officially first put into use on turbo models starting at production month 12/80. 2+2 models show them first being used at production month 9/81 (R200 only). Despite this, evidence indicates that 2+2 models may have seen them as early as 1980 production year. As always, it is best to confirm on your car directly whether you have Half Shafts or CV Axles prior to ordering.
